The Day Before Tomorrow

02/01/2009
On our second last day we went for the NBC the UN, a Public Libary and Maceys. The may be great fun for girls but lacks much for man amd two boys - ben and jerrys excepted . The NBC will happen the day after today but the UN happened today and was a great suprise. We (I) queued for 60mins + with tickets running out as we approached the ticket desk and the tour start times pushing out to 16:30 (it was only just 13:00) but then a new tour was scheduled and off we went without delay with the head of the tours service. She was full of energy and convayed wonderfully the hope that resides with the UN and the work it does.

For those that want to generate funds to help feed people must go to www.playforrice.com which generates funds for the UN Food program via the adverts.

The New York Public Library was stunning and certainly ranks as an unexpected find. We went there to see one of the sites used for the 'Day After Tomorrow' film and were stunned by the beauty of the place. A must.

2009 - Happy New Year but my bike is stolen (mike)

01/01/2009
Is it really 9 years since we saw in the new millenium, wondered if the world would end due to that date bug, and had to stop a 3 year old Jeremy draining our wine glasses?

We took thinks easy today and after bagels and buns for a lite breakfast we hit the swimming pool only to find it divded into lanes for... swimming. Sorry kids not much fun there! No matter we did a few lengths, scared off the locals and then started the serious bis. of splash battles and drown your brother games.

The day was some what spoilt when we contacted home only to hear that my 'new' road bike has been stolen - the outside door had a panel kicked in to gain access on the bike was gone, sadly this is the second bike to go missing in the space of a couple of months. Fortunately no one was hurt and the bike can be replaced with a bigger and better model given the credit crunch fuelled sales!

Our single touristy bit was a visit to the Modern Art Gallery and that had the boys going round saying 'thats not art', 'I can do that' etc Jeremy was specifically strict as he would not accept photos as art!

If any one sees a Giant SCR LTD for sale let me know...

New Years Eve - Times Square, Aircraft Carrier & Westside Story (Mike)

31/12/2008
Today we woke up to a much colder day, with snow flakes falling and 2 inches forecast. With the boys getting tired of more frown up sights we decided that the Intrepid Aircraft carrier museum was the place to go today, to be followed by the largest cathedral in the world.

Thanks to my map skills we found Time Square twice - getting ready for tonights end of year fun and games. It is actually a very small area and I can image it must get scarely busy tonight.

The boys really enjoyed the Intrepid as it has everything a boy (including Dads) would want - including the views back to New York - well we had to imagine this bit due to the snow storm.

This took us beyond lunch time and after a pizza slice we headed back into the snow for the Chathedral.
We were really lucky here as there was a practice of 'West Side Story' with choir, orchestra and a pair of supurb operatic singers going full belt!
All this and what a building !

It remains a bitterly cold night with which to bring in the new year. A happy new year to one and all!

From the Bronx to long Qs

29/12/08 08:03

Yesterday we went to the Bronx and were not allowed in the local church so we went to the Apollo theatre which had a baptist service. We had a late lunch, we had Chinese.

Today we went to go to the Statue of Liberty but the queue was very long [~3 hours] and so went on the Statten island ferry which went past the Statue of Liberty. We then went to the Empire State Building and went nearly to the top. The views were amazing! I got pecked by a pidgeon!

Jeremy
ps There was a lot of queues in the Empire State and it took us over four hours to get to the top and back down.

First thoughts on first Sunday in New York (Jeremy)

28/12/08 08:35
When me, Jonny and my dad were at the subway [on the way from JFK to the hotel] there was a strange noise [in a building on the platform] and it was scary!

When we were on this shuttle bus the driver got lost and everybody started to swear!

Today I woke up at 3:00am because of my older brother, Jonny, was being sick but not bringing anything up. So I went back to sleep. Then again I woke up at 6 am with my older brother needing to go to the toilet.

At 7:00am my Dad, Jonny and me went down for breakfast. The breakfast was the best breakfast I have ever had!
Jeremy

ps we think the strange noise was made by a fox.
